About Lean Six Sigma & LSSA
What is Lean Six Sigma?
Lean Six Sigma is a data-driven approach to process improvement. It combines Lean’s focus on eliminating waste with Six Sigma’s focus on reducing defects and variation, giving you one toolkit for making processes faster, more consistent and higher quality.
What’s the difference between Lean and Six Sigma?
Lean and Six Sigma are two separate improvement methodologies that work well together. Lean is about removing non-value-adding steps to speed processes up; Six Sigma uses statistical methods to reduce variation and defects so results are more consistent. Lean Six Sigma combines both into a single, practical toolkit.
What are the belt levels, and which one should I start with?
Our program runs Six Sigma Yellow Belt (a foundation-level introduction to the principles and tools — the right starting point if you’re new to process improvement), then Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (for leading small-to-medium improvement projects), then Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (for complex problem-solving, coaching project teams and driving strategic change). We recommend progressing through them in that order.
Is Lean Six Sigma relevant to my industry?
Yes. Our students come from manufacturing, healthcare, finance, IT and services industries — anywhere there’s a process that can be made faster, more consistent or less wasteful.
How established is LSSA — can I trust you with my training?
Lean Six Sigma Australia (LSSA) has been training professionals since 2016 and maintains a 90% course completion rate, with personalised trainer support provided throughout every course.
Choosing & Completing a Course
Do I need any prior experience before I start?
No prior Six Sigma experience is needed for Yellow Belt — it’s your foundation course. Green Belt requires you to already hold Yellow Belt certification, and Black Belt requires both Yellow and Green Belt, so the program builds your skills step by step.
How long do the courses take?
All courses are self-paced and delivered fully online. Green Belt and Black Belt are structured for completion within 6 months, with around 30–40 study hours for Green Belt and 40–50 study hours for Black Belt. You can move faster or slower to suit your own schedule.
Is the training online or in a classroom?
Fully online and self-paced, so you can study whenever and wherever suits you, with personalised trainer support available whenever you need it.
Can I study on my phone or tablet, or do I need a desktop computer?
Our site and courses are optimised for mobile, so you can study on your phone or tablet as well as a desktop or laptop — whatever suits how you like to work.
What does the course include, and is there an exam?
Courses combine structured content with real-life case studies. Green Belt, for example, is assessed with a 100-question multiple-choice online exam (120 minutes, one mark per question, no negative marking). The exam is included in your course fee, so there’s nothing extra to pay to sit it, and trainer support is available to help you prepare.
How much does Lean Six Sigma certification cost?
Pricing depends on the belt (or bundle) you choose — individual Yellow, Green and Black Belt courses, bundled packages (e.g. Yellow + Green, or all three), and corporate packages for teams. Because pricing is updated from time to time, the current fee for every course is listed on our course pages.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes — interest-free instalment payments (Afterpay) are available, letting you spread the cost over four payments.
Certification Process
How do I get certified in Lean Six Sigma?
You work through the self-paced online course content, then complete the assessment for that belt (for Green Belt, a 100-question / 120-minute online exam) to earn your certification.
Do I have to complete the belts in order?
Yes. Our program is structured progressively — Green Belt requires that you already hold Yellow Belt, and Black Belt requires both Yellow and Green Belt — so each level builds on the one before it.
What is Recognised Prior Learning (RPL), and can I use it?
If you already have relevant experience or training in Lean Six Sigma or a related improvement methodology, our RPL pathway may let you fast-track your Green Belt or Black Belt certification without repeating content you’ve already mastered. Eligibility is assessed individually — contact us and we’ll talk through your background to see if you qualify.
Does my certification expire, or do I need to renew it?
Yes — certifications need to be renewed every three years for a small renewal fee, so your credential stays current.
Can employers verify my certificate is genuine?
We don’t currently offer a formal registry or third-party verification service (e.g. a LinkedIn-verifiable credential). If an employer needs to confirm your certification, they’re welcome to contact us directly and we can verify it for them.
Is a Lean Six Sigma certification worth it?
For most people, yes. It’s a practical, widely-applicable skill set that shows up across manufacturing, healthcare, finance, IT and services, and gives you a structured way to actually lead process improvement work rather than just talk about it. It’s especially worth it if you’re aiming to lead projects, move into a quality or operations role, or want a credential that demonstrates you can deliver measurable results.
Are your certifications recognised by employers?
It’s worth knowing that, unlike credentials such as a CPA licence or the PMP, Lean Six Sigma has no single global governing body that every training provider is accredited by, whatever some certificate names might suggest. What matters more is the depth and credibility of the training behind the credential. Our self-paced online courses are built and supported by experienced practitioner trainers, structured around real-world case studies rather than theory alone, with personalised trainer support on hand from enrolment through to certification — that’s what employers and clients are really assessing when they look at your Lean Six Sigma belt.
Working With LSSA
How do I get started?
Choose your course (or bundle) from our Shop page and pay online — we’ll then activate your enrolment and get you set up with access and trainer support. Can my employer pay for my training?
Yes. If your employer is covering the cost, we’ll work with whatever payment process they need — a quote, an invoice, a purchase order, or their usual payment system. Our contact page has dedicated forms for requesting a quote or an invoice, or you can just get in touch and we’ll sort out the right paperwork for your organisation.
Is government funding or financial aid available for the courses?
We’re not aware of any government funding or subsidy scheme currently available for our courses. If your employer has a training budget, or you’d like to pay by instalments via Afterpay, those options are available — get in touch if you’d like to talk through what’s possible.
What support do I get once I’ve enrolled?
Every course includes personalised trainer support, so you’re never left to work through the material alone — you can reach out for guidance whenever you need it.
